The Session

New client, new collaborator, the stranger at the next desk: most of your work starts with someone you’ve only just met. And they form a first impression of you before the small talk has started.

The usual advice doesn’t help much. A firm handshake and steady eye contact won’t build trust on their own, and a smile isn’t always what it looks like.

In this interactive session, body language expert Sean Johns shows what the research says about how trust actually forms between two people: what makes you look approachable, how to tell when someone is open to talking, and how to know whether the conversation is landing.

This event and training will be recorded for social media.

What You Will Learn

  1. The First Seconds

How fast a first impression forms, and what it’s built from.

  2. Open or Closed?

Hands, feet and the way someone stands: who wants company, and which groups you can join.

  3. The Real Smile

Polite or pleased to see you? Played live in Flash Battle.

  4. Landing, or Time to Go?

The signs a conversation has run its course, and how to leave it well.

Sean Johns

Sean Johns is the founder of BodyLytics and a body language and non-verbal communication trainer. Two decades in high-stakes rooms at demanding brands, including Citibank and Activision Blizzard, taught him that the conversations that matter are decided by what's never said — and he's made that skill teachable. He holds certificates from Joe Navarro's Body Language Academy (Body Language Expert Program) and the Paul Ekman Group (Micro Expressions), has studied body language since 2018 (Centre of Excellence Body Language Diploma, with Distinction), and is an NLP Practitioner (PNL Barcelona).
