Sean Johns is the founder of BodyLytics and a certified body language and non-verbal communication trainer. Two decades in high-stakes rooms at Citibank, Duracell, and Activision Blizzard taught him that the conversations that matter are decided by what's never said — and he's made that skill teachable. He is certified as a Body Language Expert by Joe Navarro, in micro-expressions by the Paul Ekman Group, and accredited as an NLP Practitioner by AEPNL — the same evidence-based lineage every BodyLytics session is built on.

Reading the Room: Non-Verbal Skills for HR & Hiring

The session

Live 60-minute masterclass + Q&A for HR professionals, recruiters, and hiring managers. Learn to read candidates and employees accurately — baselines, comfort/discomfort cues, and cluster analysis — without falling for interview folklore.

Every interviewer thinks they can read people. Most are running on folklore: "she didn't hold eye contact, she's hiding something," "he seemed nervous, he'd crack under pressure." These snap judgments feel like insight — but they're unreliable, they introduce bias, and they cost you good hires.

This live masterclass gives HR professionals, recruiters, and people managers a structured, evidence-based approach to reading non-verbal behavior, built on the frameworks of Joe Navarro and Paul Ekman. You'll learn to establish a candidate's baseline in the opening minutes of an interview, distinguish normal interview nerves from meaningful discomfort, and read clusters of behavior in context instead of over-weighting a single gesture.

We'll go beyond the interview room too: reading the real mood of a team meeting, spotting disengagement before the resignation letter arrives, and handling sensitive conversations — grievances, performance reviews, exits — with better awareness of what isn't being said.

Structured observation, not gut feel. Serious training, without the mythology.

Live session includes open Q&A — bring your real hiring scenarios. Registrants get access to the recording.

What you will learn

How to establish a candidate's behavioral baseline in the first minutes of an interview — and why judging anyone without one is guesswork
How to separate normal interview nerves from genuine discomfort signals that warrant a follow-up question
The comfort/discomfort framework: what shifts in posture, pacifying behaviors, and engagement cues actually indicate
Why "lie detection" folklore (eye contact, fidgeting, crossed arms) creates bias in hiring decisions — and what to do instead
How to read the room in team meetings and 1:1s: early non-verbal indicators of disengagement, disagreement, and low psychological safety
A practical observation checklist you can use in your next interview, performance review, or difficult conversation
