Live sessions: fixing sound, the phone link and the pre-flight

Before you start

You need two devices: a laptop and a phone.

  • Use a laptop with working speakers or headphones, running an up-to-date version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.
  • Use a phone with a working camera. You do not need to install anything on it.
  • You do not need a camera or a microphone. You will only watch and listen; interactive steps happen on your phone.
  • Do not use Internet Explorer or a browser more than a couple of versions old — the pre-flight checks will not run reliably.
  • If Teams, Zoom or another call app is open, close it. These apps can hold onto your laptop's audio device and stop the sound check working.

  • The sound check will not play, or plays silently

Start with the basics, then check browser permissions if the sound still will not play.

  • Check the browser tab is not muted — right-click the tab and confirm there is no Unmute site option showing.
  • Check your laptop's output device is correct, not a disconnected pair of Bluetooth headphones or a monitor with no speakers.
  • If your Bluetooth headphones are paired to another device (a phone, another laptop), your laptop's audio has nowhere to go. Disconnect them from the other device, or switch your laptop back to its built-in speakers.
  • In Chrome or Edge, use I didn't hear it on the sound check card, then Choose a speaker to pick the right output device.
  • If it still plays silently, check your browser is allowed to play sound on bodylytics.coach.

  • Chrome (desktop)

  • Click the tune or lock icon to the left of the address bar, then Site settings, then set Sound to Allow.
  • Or go to chrome://settings/content/sound and check bodylytics.coach is not in the blocked list.

  • Microsoft Edge

  • Click the lock icon to the left of the address bar, then Permissions for this site, then check Media autoplay and Sound are both allowed.

  • Safari on Mac

  • Safari menu → Settings for bodylytics.coach…Auto-PlayAllow All Auto-Play.
  • Or Safari → SettingsWebsitesAuto-Play, and set bodylytics.coach to allow.

  • Firefox

  • Click the permissions icon in the address bar → AutoplayAllow Audio and Video.
  • Or SettingsPrivacy & SecurityPermissionsAutoplay, and add bodylytics.coach as allowed.

  • iPad or iPhone Safari

  • Check the physical mute switch and that the device is not in Silent mode.
  • Open Control Centre and check the volume is turned up.

  • Windows

  • Check the sound output device selected in the taskbar volume control.
  • Open the volume mixer and check your browser's app volume is not turned down or muted.

  • macOS

  • Check the sound output selected in Control Centre.
  • If AirPlay is active, the audio may be going to a speaker or TV in another room. Switch it back to your laptop.

  • The QR code will not scan, or the phone will not pair

  • Use your phone's built-in camera app, not a separate QR scanner app.
  • Turn your laptop screen brightness up and hold the phone about 20–30 cm from the screen.
  • If scanning still fails, do not keep trying — type the room code shown under the QR code into live.bodylytics.coach instead.
  • Check your reminder email for a personal join link; tapping it pairs your phone directly, with no code needed.
  • Make sure your phone has an internet connection, over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
  • Make sure you are joining the same session as the laptop — the room code on your phone must match the code on the laptop screen.
  • If the Phone paired card on the laptop does not tick within ten seconds of your phone joining, refresh the laptop page.

  • The test tap says nothing came back

This message means the phone's connection did not reach the session in time, not that anything is broken on the laptop.

  • Check whether your phone is on Wi-Fi or mobile data, and try switching to the other.
  • If you are on a corporate or hotel network, a firewall or VPN may be blocking the connection. Try mobile data instead.
  • On hotel or public Wi-Fi, open a browser tab and check you have passed any captive portal login page.
  • Check your phone is not in airplane mode.
  • Press Tap again once you have changed network.
  • You can still watch the session on your laptop even if the tap never succeeds — you will simply miss the phone-based interactive parts.

  • I cannot hear or see the session once it starts

  • Check the browser tab is not muted, in the same way as the sound check above.
  • Refresh the page if the picture or sound freezes.
  • The session itself runs through Daily in your browser, not through the phone. Make sure your browser allows bodylytics.coach to play sound, using the steps under "The sound check will not play" above.
  • You may see a prompt asking for camera or microphone access. Decline it — you are not expected to be seen or heard, and the session works fully without it.

  • The waiting room says "Waiting for the host" or the countdown does not move

  • This is normal before the host opens the room — it is not a fault on your end.
  • Keep the tab open; the page will update on its own once the host starts the session.
  • Do not open the room in a second tab on the same laptop — this can confuse the pairing between your laptop and phone.

  • Still stuck

    Email support@bodylytics.coach with:

  • Your browser name and version.
  • Whether the issue is on your laptop or your phone.
  • What the relevant card on the waiting room says.

  • You can join and watch the session while you wait for a reply — the interactive parts on your phone are optional, and missing one does not stop you following the rest.
